This guy hit the money. We use pingfarm.com incorporated into all of our software, I know the site owner/creator and he's a cool guy. This site will ping a HUGE list of URLs (or just one or two if that's all you need) to 22 of the most popular/best pinging sites with the push of a button. Pinging is essentially a method of letting search engines, such as Google, know that there is new content/pages on your site so their spiders should come by and crawl it. Commonly people submit the URLs where they place backlinks to pinging services, thus Google spiders will say "ok this page has new content let us go see" and then they visit and this will get your backlink indexed (counted) more quickly which will help you improve search engine results rankings more quickly than waiting for the search spiders to come back around again in their own time.
