Can You Choose Highly Competitive Keyword For A New Site And Sneak To First Page

    Usually it's easier and less expensive to bring less competitive keyword from 3d
    page of Google than bring competitive keyword from the 2d page to Top10. So in the beginning, especially if you do not invest serious funds in SEO, less competitive keywords are good starting point.

    What do you think?

    I always focus on the really competitive words by building a truly authoritative site. that is where the big money is in the long run. If you can rank on the competitive words, then your site should be powerful enough to trickle down the link juice through good linking structure to rank on the less competitive words. This is not a short-term strategy, but I suggest building websites for the long term.

    I completely agree with jdr8271, aim high and even if you don't go as far as you'd like, you will still acquire some of the lower hanging fruit... but if you aim low, you will ONLY get the low-hanging fruit.

    Aim high! But combine the top 5 long tail keyword phrases in it as well. And then "Keep On Tuning..."

    Yes, of course! Nothing is impossible! Just a piece of advice, don't focus on only one keyword. Also target other search terms even the long ones.

    It depends on your business plan. Sometimes its important to get returns over investment within shorter period of time. Some people choose keywords that can rank well within 3 months and ambitious people choose keywords that may take 1 year to get higher rankings.

    Usually, Its good to start with a lesser competition and get return over investment within small time.

    I would second you, If you are a novice or jumping into competitive niche... Its better to select less competitive keywords.

    And, once you start getting rankings and traffic... you can introduce highly competitive keywords in your campaign.

    To fight for the highly competitive keywords, one needs to work with good strategy and needs experience of carrying out the optimization process with productive results..!!
    So, better start with the less competitive one's and work for high competitive one's side by side as it needs more effort and time..!!
