Link building is important but social bookmarking is not the best way to do it. A few years back, social bookmarking sites were all rage and it was possible to get good rankings just by bookmarking but now you need to get your links from as many diverse sources as possible. For example links from Press Release sites, EDU/GOV sites, Blog comments, Web 2 sites, Profile backlinks, Forums backlinks etc. Focus on getting high PR do follow backlinks and your site will rise in rankings. Do not spam your links on low PR, junk sites as it will not do any good.
