Have you ever done a giveaway contest using one of your websites? How did you conduct it? What type of results did you see?

I'm considering running a few giveaway contests to see if I can gain some new traffic.

Facebook or You tube. Giveaways are great ways to generate good traffic. I suggest making a video of the product your giving away showing the quality and giving direct instructions to your visitors on how to enter the giveaway- can be sign ups for a free site or subscribing to your page/site/account.

We have had limited success in terms of ROI from giveaways. Our results, that could very well be skewed by our own ignorance, usually don't attract the most profitable subscribers.

In the future I want to test limiting giveaways to those who have previously engaged with one of our properties in some way (preferably cookied) rather than a broad approach to attract new visitors.

I see. It's probably better to offer more consistent deals rather than a one-time giveaway type thing. I could see how that may only generate people searching for free stuff.

Maybe offering a free e-book to subscribed/cookied users would produce better results.

Facebook and Twitter is the easiest way to execute it.

Just make it like once we reach 30k followers/fan we will do a giveaway.

And you will have a massive fan base increasing, of course it really depends the time of giveaway.

Right. I think you need to have a solid fan base to have any success at all with a give-away. Otherwise you will probably not be seeing much benefit.

    Unless you get 1,000 t-shirts printed ;)

Easy to execute it if you do the giveaway on the fan page that they like. Something related to it, easiest could just be $20 paypal cash or others.

Thats how i raised a whopping 30k fans in my Facebook fan page although it also takes quite a few time and patient.

Well in terms of marketing think of it like this:

If you could for example setup a giveaway to draw traffic and have them enter with an email address you can later utilize that list for CPA give away offers at a later time.

If you are trying to use a giveaway to generate fast sales then you are going to need TONS more traffic to make up the difference in the cost of the giveaway and people that just want freebies.
