Best CMS for a business web directory?

Discussion in 'Content Management' started by winsoar, Aug 28, 2011.

I want to set up a series of niche directories to list businesses by area and classification.

Which CMS would be best for this?

Preferably I'm looking for one that is opensource (free).

    Thanks in advance,

    James.

Most likely Joomla with a third-party plugin like Community Builder.

you could also look into Typo3

Joomla is the most popular free CMS today and would be the best option for your requirement.

You can check out the script in my signature, which was designed specifically to be a business directory. It's not free, but includes ongoing scraping capabilities.

Joomla along with Mosets Tree (component) would be your best bet. I've used them a couple of times, and it's a great directory plugin.

Not free but I highly recommend Gossamer Threads Links if the site will receive a large amount of traffic. It's used by successful directories such as flashkit.com

In my opinion you should try WP, Joomla or Drupal. You have plenty of useful plugins.
