$22 worth of adwords doesn't prove anything. Even if you're only bottom fishing and paying 10 cent Per Click that's only 220 clicks. You can't establish any statistical validity with that small a sample.

I concur with compar, your sample is just too small. What was your clickthrough rate and average position?

Regarding bottom-fishing... I'm doing something like that for a new site right now. However, I'm paying competitive per click amounts to get me into the middle / upper-middle of the pack for fairly competitive keywords, but limiting my exposure to only $10 per day. The goal is to duplicate the variables (cost-per-click & ad location) of what I might do on a heavy spend campaign while limiting my risk. I can then determine the best campaigns to target/use based on these arguably small early samples.

This is also a new site whose product viability is still in question so we are just shotgunning out a few small, low-$ marketing efforts to see what demand *might* be should we decide to throw real $ behind it.

How do you know adwords wasn't working? Are you doing everything you can to attract the people once they get to your site? Do you have a newsletter or another way to capture their info?

was it adwords or was it the keywords that were chosen, the landing page they brought you to and on page factors? blaming adwords is wayyyy too simplified.

$22 is nothing. As Compar points out, the maximum number of clicks you get for that is 220. Even if you convert 1%, that only makes 2 potential sales you were hoping to grab. If you aren't presenting the right information to make the sale then those 2 vanish and your conversion will be much lower.

Re-evaluate the site from a customers point of view and look for any reason you can to close the browser window; any hurdles, hoops or jumps which put the customer off being a customer.
