How to Improve Search Engine Ranking:

Showing up on search engines is one of the most critical ways to increase website traffic and expose your content, product or service to people who might be interested in what you have to offer. Most of the major search engines utilize an algorithm to determine where a website ranks. The search engines have set up specific criteria that a website must meet to get to the top of the list. The criteria are different for every engine, but all engines share several commonalities. It all boils down to the type and amount of content provided on a given website, the level of optimization done on the site, and the popularity of the website (link popularity/PageRank). Tailoring your website for improved search engine rankings is also known widely as search engine optimization, or SEO.

Research the keywords. Decide what search queries you want to show up for. Do some research on how many people are actually searching for your site. Many times it is best to consult a "natural search engine optimization" professional during this process. There are several tools available from Google, Overture, and third party software developers that can make the keyword research process easier.

    I hope these can help:

    • Get Those Inbound Links
Since Google ranks your pages according to the number of links pointing at your page, it stands to reason that you should try to get as many links pointing at your pages as possible. This is so obvious that I'm only mentioning it for completeness sake.

    • Your Title Tag
Google seems to give weight to the title of your page. By title, I mean the text that is sandwiched between the HTML <TITLE> tags in the <HEAD> section of your web page. If you use a Web editor that automatically inserts a title like "New Page", remember to change it to some meaningful text with your keywords inside to reap the benefit of this feature.

    • Content-Laden Pages (Keyword Density)
It has often been observed that Google considers keyword density a large factor in ranking pages in search engine results, more so than many other search engines.

    • Keyword-laden Links?
According to a paper published by one of Google's founders, if the links pointing to yourpage has the relevant keyword text in them, it will cause your page to be ranked higher in search engine results. For example, a link with the text "Cheap Shoe Store" pointing at your site will cause your site to be listed earlier if a visitor searches for "cheap shoe store" than if the link simply said "click here".

And you want to pick those that are going to last. One in, one out is no good. You want to build links. You want to get links from sites that are going to grow old. Sites that mature and mellow with age. Links that grow in value year by year. One plus one can be made to equal three, four and more if you give them......time. Then there are links that point to your internal pages.

Yes, quality links always outshine sites with thousands of links. Over the long term anyways.

Google does not use meta tags to rank. Title yes. Meta tags no.

First do select your keywords and then promote those keywords by doing social bookmarking, social networking article submissions, directory submissions, exchanging links etc.

Do some SEO for your site. In much simpler words get some quality content on your site which is fresh and unique and then build high PR backlinks for it.

    Hello!

I have some problems with our website. I did a lot for our linkbuilding but the pagerank is still a the same level. What can be a reason for that? Do you have any ideas?

My website has been live for a month or so and we're hidden deep down google's search results. We're a chocolate and sweet shop in the Uk, I've been doing a fair bit of SEO and havent noticed much change in terms of organic search traffic. The people we're getting across the site are mainly from Adwords. How long will it realistically take for me to move up the rankings?
