Hello Guys, Well in the coming weeks I have decided to try and start up a website after a few years out of the scene I feel I'm alot more mature now and ready to make a serious go at this.I have deiced to start with a proxy as they are pretty easy to run till I feel my way back into the game. In the past when I made websites i never even considered SEO and thats why I failed. Could some one give me some very Basic tips on where to start With SEO. Thanks Ross.
Just start with few off-page optimization which includes stuff like directory submission. social bookmarking, articles, blogs etc.

i think you should start with blog commenting on high page rank blogs and sites. it is good for your site.
First make sure that your content is high quality and helpful, something you're actually proud of. From there put your attention into on-page SEO - it's a short list and very simply actually, you could just google it to find out exactly what to do. Then start off building low quality backlinks such as directory submissions, social bookmarking, and submitting some articles to article directories.
I often see starting online marketers (who do not have a solid seo background) put up websites that doesn't focus on a certain product/service. It's better to try to work with a niche site first, one that's not too competitive, so it'll be easier to experiment with the seo process. Once it became successful, go and try other niche, or try a challenging one - my opinion
just make a good quality article. Good quality article can develop a loyal visitor to your site. you can also promote your site through social bookmarking.
Agreed - quality content is the best place to start. Then start worrying about the seo tactics to help rank.
