i have been suing the indexu script for years but today my admin section is not working because it looks up the license on nicecoder.com to validate and nicecoder.com doesn't exist any more. any one else having this issue?

I don't really hear people talking about it anymore.

I seem to think there was a thread around here some place where the owner said they weren't going to be continuing the project but still provide support? (You might want to search and make sure I have the right program in mind.) Of course, anything like that usually means the support will eventually end too.

If I were you, I would contact the support folks at phpLD and eSyndicat and see which script better matches your needs and work on getting your directory converted to a more active project.

You have my sympathies. I'm facing a similar dilemma with another site and I keep hoping the "new and improved" version will meet my needs but hold little hope of that happening.

If you need help, we do a lot of conversions these days. We can easily convert from indexu to phpLD.

In any case, it sounds like you really do need to make a switch. I would recommend phpLD, the only reason being that I use it and I don't have any problems with it.
