Need help in how to pick a niche

Does anyone have any ideas on how to pick a niche topic? When I try I can't think of many or any ones I do think of are the obvious ones with loads of pages. Im trying to find a term that gets about 100k searches a month then I'm going to build a site on that and get it on the first page. I'm trying to find many then pick the one with the lowest competing pages. any ideas? thanks

Find out the topics on which you can produce quality content consistently. This will filter out most of the choices. Then try to get an idea about the competition in that niche.

It can be really hard to pick up a niche, you need to think if you could work it out or not, and then also the competition on it.

you have to pick a niche you are familiar with otherwise you are going to be lost and the only way you will get content is off of other people doing the same thing and you will not be successful

I personally would go with something that is familiar to me and is something that interests me. This way I will not get all caught-up in the troubles and stress related to making revenues from my site. Once you have figured this out, you may go to clickbank and look for a product that falls under your first parameter. See if that product sells well (affiliate earnings and related ROI are in a good-great shape) go for an affiliate program on your chosen product.

Search for a topic for which there is both strong demand for (as per your 100k searches/mo stipulation) for which you can also find attractive products for). Then outsource everything you can. This removes headaches on your end about SEO, content creation, page design, etc. Use the Google Adwords keyword tool to get ideas about what keywords work for your topic, and perhaps some free software (e.g., the free version of Traffic Travis) to determine how to get keywords for your niche that have low SEO competition.

I don't believe you HAVE to be interested in the niche, as long as it can make you money. Its the same argument as having a job that doesn't pay well but you enjoy, and having a high paying job that you don't enjoy as much. But at the end of the day, I enjoy the money that i make so it's all irrelevant to me.

I would suggest you have a look at possible ways of monetizing the perspective website before you look for terms, that way you will DEFINITELY know that all you're hard work will convert into hard cash. If you're looking for a suitable keyword, just plug in relevant words into google keyword tool (GKT)and it'll give you a list of how many searches each term gets.

I hope this has helped you

One way of picking a niche is looking for popular trends, such as a popular TV show, or something in the news

Lots of electronics products are always going to be popular. Mobile phones, TV's, computers, etc. multimedia is always popular, from movies to TV to celebrities. other than that, you can always google phrases like "hot trends" "fads" "what's popular", etc.

Do not pick a topic for your website based solely on what you know or interested in. You have to think about how you intend to monetize your website when choosing a topic. Otherwise, you may end up building a website that will not make money for you or is difficult to monetize.

    Good luck.

I think the most important thing is what YOU are passionate about and interested in the most. If you yourself is pouring your heart into the topic then the content and everything else will follow as long as you continue to work on it.

Yes pick on that is an evergreen niche where you can keep selling to them. But also choose one that interests you or even better if you are passionate about it like others have said.

You should choose something that you feel confident in speaking about regularly. Also, make it unique so that you stand out and hopefully choose something that you enjoy.

I guess I'm kind of in the middle. I think it is important to have an interest in what you are doing as has been pointed out by many above. You are less likely to get bored with it and loose your motivation to keep working on it if it is something you like. On the other hand you can't ignore the fact that your end goal is to monetize the site. You need to start thinking of what you will offer-goods, products, services or information. You can start researching different ideas on amazon or ebay. I also agree that clickbank is a great source for researching new niches!
