    If you're only doing it for links, than no. But if you want links and to build a relationship, than yes it does still work in 2011.

    You need to make a good and meaningful comment that can build relationship with other bloggers, from this you get good links in return. So I can boldly tell you that its a two thing in one.

    Try to find dofollow blogs related to your niche and start commenting relevant posts..this way you can build a relation ship with the webmaster also and increase your baklinks also..:)

    Well Blog commenting never remain so helpful to me. So I'm not a big fan of it but if you can convince people with your provoking comments to make link with your site then it'll be worthy.

    But Blog commenting will never bring you permanent traffic..It would result in a temporary spike..

    I think blog commenting is the good way to increase traffic and ranking but your commenting should be meaning full and comment on do follow blogs.

    it depends on how you are doing the back links. if you are using the text "read more" and link it, it's not as useful as hyperlinking "product to focus"

    Blog commenting on unrelevant blog does not affect your site very well. If you are commenting on relevant do follow blog and forums , that will affect your effort very well. This is one of the best method to gain backlinks.
