directory submission is still importnat it'll give you a backlink but be assure that the directory site is check the listing & give approval manually because most search engines are devalued those directory site who gives instant approval.

I'll turn this question back to you...Did you look over the directories before you submitted to them to determine how well they were maintained? Did you verify the page that your listings will be displayed on was actually indexed by Google? How good were the sites that you submitted and their descriptions?

If you were submitting 300 sites at the same time and using an IP from India, you may have gotten caught in people's spam filters. Because so many of the dodgy SEO companies are from your country, some directory owners automatically filter out submissions from there. They simply take the calculated risk of losing a few good submissions to avoid dealing with thousands of garbage submissions.

What is a directory submission worth? What did you pay for it? If you paid nothing for it it is probably worth nothing.

You can get in some decent directories sometimes for free, but usually not. 10-20 directory links costing $5-$10 each is probably going to be worth much more then 500 links for free.

Google knows every website catalogue, and if it just a spammed link source google never will use that source - just because it's a link trash site. Other thing - you using some software to add your site to these catalogs ? if yes - then you must describe your site individually for each catalogue (text must be unique) - then you probably will get a link. And third = google dont likes catalogues at all because it have catalogue itself called dmoz.

Google has never at any point owned dmoz, and they discontinued their own branded copy of it months ago.

google never liked any website that becomes a link trash site (site that have a ton of links from 1 page to a ton of sites = thats a trash site catalogue or probably spamed resource) - if you got a link from that site you are getting lil minus in an eyes of search engine for your site. as somebody speaked earlier search engine have like 200 factors to rank a site.

    Agree too.

The pool of directories is so large these days that it can be very difficult to wade through it and find the good ones. The fact that there are far more good directories now, than 10 years ago, is irrelevant, because they are vastly outweighed by the sheer number of bad ones.

This is why many people have the *perception* that directories are being devalued, because so many poor ones exist that they almost define the industry.

But make no mistake, there are high quality and medium quality directories in good supply, it just takes a skilled eye to filter out all the surrounding garbage.

Lets just examine this - you have registered in very fine catalogue (probably that catalogue charged you for registration) - what google thinks when it find your link (it may find your link in 1 day or in 1 year - that very count) so - ahh, found link, but where - some site that links to a thousand sites worldwide. lol, another catalogue.. nothing special at all. yea, it's have categories - but why to trust it ? google trust one site - dmoz. other catalogues are just link trashes for it. build your links with the sites in your thematic - 10 links from your theme != 1000000 links from every thrash site worldwide... dont go with quantity - go with quality.

If you mean you submitted to 300 sites, did you select suitable directories and manually submit to them or did you outsource the submissions?
