What do you think about domain .CO on Google Search?

    Hi,
Do you guys pay attention to domains .CO?
I am wondering if Google considers it as the normal domains .com, .net, .org and so on?
I do not see many domains .CO on the Google Search.
Do you have any comments on this?

.CO means Colombia. If your site is related to that country, then go ahead and acquire one.

I have heard that Co domains stand for company, cooperation... but not for Colombia! Just make sure we are not confused with it. Is it correct?

I think google search engines do not discriminate against the domain extension.

Not particularly good. We do have a couple .co domains we got because the .com's were already taken. But in practice people are often confused by them, and the SEs don't seem to like them very much either.

.CO is treated exactly as a gTLD (like .com) by Google and this is not an opinion but it's official.

As far as my personal opinion goes, i have seen very few websites with .co domain making upto the first page of google for any keyword. There is no harm in getting this domain but again (i may be wrong) google seems to prefer .com and then .net and then .org. what's your opinion on that guys.

As the Google staff said the Co domain was treated as a gTLD (like .Com) since August! That is very good news as I am having few nice Co domains and I am undecided to develop them or not!
Now I do not to worry any more! Just go ahead and I think one day it will get a high ranking!
Thanks a lot for your discussion!

I have heard that they are quite new and there are not many strong .CO sites yet.
Last week I had to choose between registering short .co and a longer .com domain, but I have chosen .com domain. I just do not want to take the risk.

“At least you have an ability within Google Webmaster Tools to say that ok, for my .co, this is actually about this country or that country...Even though it’s a country specific domain, you may do geo-targeting”
This is what Matt Cutts has to say on whether .co is treated as a generic TLD or not...
