Obviously, sitemap is a primary requirement as It is a great way to let know the search engines about the latest updates of your website. Using sitemaps has many benefits, not only easier navigation and better visibility by search engines but also it inform to search engines about any changes on your site. Sitemaps also help in classifying your site content. RSS is the secondary requirement.

Sitemap is the basic need for a site. It is like a menu for SE's bot to know about the pages available in your site.

    hi,
Sitemaps are basic need for website, provides easier and better visibility to search engine, if there is any change in website will be indexed faster due to presence of sitemap that is good in seo point of view.
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) gives visitors the latest information; by RSS click user will get all details of new post, it brings more returning visitors.

    regards

Sitemap is much more important than a RSS feed. They are only important if you have regularly updated content on your site and you need to spread the word around. They work well for blogs and news sites rather than ordinary sites.

    Which sitemap?

All my sites have an XML sitemap for Google, plus a PHP/HTML sitemap for visitors as well as a Text sitemap that Yahoo used to like ...

After you've created and submitted Sitemap to Google it's time for your RSS and RSS submission place. Sitemap and RSS are both important just because, they are different things :)

Sitemaps are the primary requirement compared with RSS feed, coz sitemap helps in indexing a site faster in search engines. This is what a webmaster wants.
