    It's better for you to chose the second option (sub folder). When you create a subdomain like the first option, Google considers that to be a separate site. You will have to do all your SEO work on that page as well as the main one. But when you go with a sub-folder, you wouldn't have that issue.

    It depends, if keyword two is going to be large enough to be just in a subfolder and tackles much different from the mother site, use subdomain. Example is Google Groups being on a subdomain apart from Google.com

    I think second one is much better and you will see mostly ranked pages in that manner. google contain subdomain as another site therefor you may not get benefit of backlinking , trackbacks .

    From my personal experience, i just suggest you for sub-domain. I think sub-domain is better than folder for SEO.

    I think getting the data from a second folder would be a better option, even though I have a subdomain but I don't rank very well for the keywords that I want to rank for. That is why I think it would be great to have a subdomain.

    People who said Second option.. they are very much right... In first option you will get one Domain name. In which you can not get PR or Backlink power of your original site. However you can create these kind of domain for Blog and Backlink purpose. It is good sometimes. It depends upon your need. Both are good options but go second if don't need subdomain,,,,,
