How to hire a hacker

I was talking to a colleague about a competitor of one of our clients and he jokingly said that we should hire a hacker to DDOS or hack to the to try and get it to lose it's #1 spot. While it was all in jest it did get me thinking.

While I wouldn't want to hire a hacker as I happen to like keeping things legal, I was actually curious as to how one goes about it.

I mean, does one simply advertise on a forum? Or is there some seedy way to go about it, eg having to do "favours" for certain individuals who'll introduce you to others, etc, etc until you ahve wormed your way into the seedy underbelly of net security and found what you're lokking for? :p

How would one, for that matter, hire anyone from the underworld? It can't be like the movies/comics protray

    haha...

Not that I know from experience...

But I am sure that a lot of the younger coders you can hire in the services forum could do the job, well make a valiant attempt at it atleast. Its finding the one that could do it, and would keep it under wraps would be the tricky part ;)

I'd say just post an ad, I'm sure you'll get responses.

hahaha, but how many would be cops trying to set up a trap like in a bad hacker film? :p

heh heh. Well, since posting the original post I've yet to have my PC hacked and then have a message appear, "See? I'm a leet haxor! hire me!" :p

hmmmm... that's making me think... how many hackers do actually get hired as security consultants after they hack a company's server? Can't be that many I suppose, seeing how the companies probably go ape and hire assassins or something :D

    relixx,

I think the job is already done. I am sure you have a flood of emails from young and willing hackers. I know one good one if you are interested. By the way. It's not me. I used to hack many years ago (I'm 42 now) but didn't see the point. However, I have used my skills to scare a few people into honouring their payments. LOL :D

Nope. Im only curious, I don't intend on hiring a hacker. That goes against my ethics

Well, you only go to prison if you get caught ;)

Well, it's not the ones you hear about that im interested in. I wonder how many tried that, but mysteriously "disappeared" :p

Nah, just the usual nigerian scams, etc.

    Hahaha, thats badass

Go join the right kind of forums, make some friends, and you will find hackers soon enough. There are hackers on DP, but they won't come out of the woodwork here, they need to be in their natural environment to come out. =P

lol well.. if your thinking theres an underworld of "l33t h4ckers" that are over 15 years old and spend all day hacking, your in for disappointment.

I wouldn't go out in search of a "hacker". Say your target site is on a linux server running PHP. Go find someone who goes to a tech school or local college who knows someone who is experience with the version of Apache, linux, and PHP the server is running. Have that guy look over the site/code and do some research on everything the clients rival is doing. or even get in with the clients rival, and maybe he can find an exploit to disrupt the site. I don't really believe that there are many people over 16 years old anymore who dedicate their lives to "hacking". Most people these days are after their MCSE, MCSA, Linux+ certs so that they can get a job in the computer industry. You find one of those guys who's still in college and hurting for money, and they might be willing to take a look at it.
