I am new to internet business.
I have read a bit too many articles and sales letters to start earning money instantly.
So I was just wondering !!
How long did real people take to start their business and earn real money!!
It would atleast help newbees like me to set realistic goals and expectations.

so, you would like to know how, yes?
Not hard! First of all I registered at a forum where you post, earn points and exchange for a domain but I didn't stay much in there!
After that, I came to DP and posted and I made a thread Signature Bid where people bid for a link in my signature!
In this way, I earned aprox. 30$ and went to ebay
Bought some cheap domains for 0.99$ and 2.00$ then made a directory!
And I started with featured links!
Also, if you are a good designer, post your services and I'm sure you'll receive money

It took me two months. The biggest investment is education. I got work shortlly after starting a technical program at a local university. You can find work at marketing or design company so you don't neccesarily need to invest much in terms of software, etc.. If you want to do it yourself you need:
    1. a computer fast enough to make you efficient: $1000
    2. Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator. $2000
    3. A fast internet connection
A good place to get started may be with a reputable college program. I found doors started opening up for me when I went back to school and earned some credentials.

It took me around 6-8 months, and even now (a year later) I can't say I'm doing great, but I am definitely going in the right direction. All I can say is read as much as you can on marketing/sales/etc, and as time goes on you'll earn more.

Took me about a year to learn a lot of stuff that I found imperative to know: php, css, SEO basics, etc. Also I did a lot of research on affiliate programs and what works and what doesn't. It's a lot of work if you REALLY WANT to earn > $100/day for a long time.

There are persons that have found easier ways to make money but my advice would be to try and learn a bit from everything and then focus on one domain (that you know and love).

Since you're just starting my tips would be:

    - YOU MUST REALLY WANT TO EARN ONLINE.
    - build a site with rich content on something you LOVE and ENJOY!
    - promote your site in directories and dmoz.org, even forums.
    - use adsense since it's the fastest way to make $ if you have visitors and content.
    - read a bit or too about how to optimize your adsense code placement.

Hope this works for you since there's always space for one more web site ;)

It took me about 6 months from the time I started. On the other hand, the first three months I spent learning how to set up my blog, tweak it to look right and add the functionality I needed. I started implementing ways to monetise it only later.

It took me several months to start earning from my affiliate websites (revenue - expenses). It took a lot of testing and mistakes to finally learn what worked for me.

But now that I have about a year under my belt, I can usually make a new affiliate website start paying within a week or two.

Instead of asking you should just try. If it fails it is not the end of the world. In the case of blogging, if you are studying at University of doing a certification course, write an article based on what you are learning/learnt. (or a hobby)

Like this you are hitting 2 birds with 1 stone. Earning some $$ and learning. You will actually have fun studying knowing that you can earn some income.
