Dream on... people said the same after biz, name, info, ws, etc. etc

Including those pesky subdomains diguised as TLD that required a plugin, the "new".net aero, car, shop, etc.

But .MOBI doesn't guarantee you a mobile phone compatible website isn't it? Its just a TLD extension.

And as I said in another Mobi thread, Mobiles will have an option to set whichever TLD you want as your default one most likely, so .mobi doesn't help a lot here.

.mobi is restricted to websites for mobile devices, so it's got limited potential.

As time goes by, more and more mobile devices will have Internet access but, as that number increases, so will their capabilities - most mobile devices will probably soon be able to view standard websites (.com etc) using IE and Firefox, thus reducing the need for .mobi domains/websites. So while the immediate potential for .mobi is decent but limited, in the long run I think it has no future.

I think decent .mobi names have a chance,

if it ever takes off I have 3 very decent names to throw around...

I will just wait 2-3 years and see if things take off...

.com will all ways be the true leader but.

.mobi domains might gain popularity in the coming few years but their popularity cannot be compared to that of .com. .com is the best for commercial purposes while .mobi best for sites related to mobile phones.

Yes, it does. That's the whole point of .mobi.
There are more people browsing the net through mobile devices than PC in Japan. This extension has potential.

Do e-tailers have limited potential vs retailers? If a company makes products related to basketball, are they limiting their potential by not making products related to sports in general?
    Of course not.
The market is huge and growing. The potential is there, though not guaranteed.
People will always carry mobile devices with small screens. It is impossible to view "standard websites" if their screens are too small to view them.

By using style as in CSS (cascading style sheets) content can be formated based on the device that it is viewed on. So any web site can be formatted for mobile without a mobi extension.

On the other hand, I do believe .mobi will do better than .aero, .museum, and .coop. :D
