i've registered there sm time ago...and never went back again..its to messy for general use, i think... for commercial purposes only...though they have sm nice features like background editing and other designer stuff... and speaking of design i think myimpression.me has also some perspectives in that sense

Facebook.. the social network for little girls and old ladies to play farmville all day long. I'd rather spend my day at linkedIn.

Don't use myspace either, but at least I can always find new music over there without needing to register. Also stopped using Hi5, guess they could really improve their site. You forgot to mention WAYN.com since it should also be listed.

Does anyone understand *why* or how Myspace suffered such a rapid demise? And could the same happen to Facebook, if something really dramatically better comes along? And if so, what do you think the next generation social nework site would have to do to displace Facebook? I'm really fascinated by this.

Hey AntakaMatics, nice to a fellow from "the burgh" around here. Welcome.

Myspace has a very specific demographic targeting. It was popular in the US with young adults but does not appeal much to older people, folks who don't really value music so much and people in other countries where English is not the native language. Then came the fact facebook would not only compete in the same demographics but also provide a whole lot more to offer for other audiences.

This is the reason why my previous comment about games for little girls and old ladies was made. You see, women are in the base of relationships. If they use and like a given platform, men will most often than not follow them and that is a key factor for these social networks to thrive.

In the great order of things, all websites get displaced eventually. Eventually people will get fed up with a notification bar that uses so much space on the right side of the screen, they get tired of seeing adverts and they eventually try something else for a change.

I would say that Microsoft will be interesting to watch across the next 5 years. They reach more people than any other social network and the competition from past years in several fields has been a good motivator. Let's see what happens.
