It is very hard to compete with big companies like GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc

The only reason I can survive is because I've a different market and my price is competitive. Good luck ;)

I do, but not much. It is not easy money because there are many registrars and there are no guidelines set for how low one can charge for a domain name registration.

The profit margins are always low, figure 5%-10% if you want to keep prices competitive. If you don't care what anyone else is selling them for you can pull a network solutions and try to rip people off for $30+/yr I suppose, but I have a conscience.

you mean domain flipping? Its like used cars business. you can buy them whenever and how many you want, you spend on repairing and maintaining them and wait and wait for a customer. When you get a customer you are in profit, when you dont, you wait and wait and wait, while your money remains invested..

    Hope it helps :)

Great analogy. I would add that the profit can be immense when you choose correctly. If you use good common sense, you will buy great domains that may then be sold for 100 times your initial payment. Ive sold various domains above 15k, its a great business.

Haha true, but you may earn that showroom by finding an initial great domain and selling it by doing some research. Once sold for a high value, you will have the necessary leverage on sites like sedo to gain more visibility.

I have sold a few decent price domains, but I bought them many years ago when there was a lot less competition, and I spent 100's of hours doing keyword research. These days you have to jump on a new niche or develop a brandable domain, having said that, there are always some great domains available in the secondry markets if you look for the right stuff, and do your homework.
