    Is there a plug in that can speed up the loading time of a WP site?

    Yes, there are multiple free cache plugins on wordpress.org which will create your pages with smaller sizes. Will speed up page load time for visitors.

    Must do:
    * Use W3 Total Cache plugin (it's awesome plugin).
    * Use only use only necessary plugin and delete deactivate plugin.
    * Optimize database.
    * Use fast hosting

    Optional:
    * Use WP Smush.it plugin
    * Use CloudFlare service

    CDN usually stands for content delivery network. And I'm not sure what that would do to help. Google has a new product out there called Google Page speed that might be worth checking out.

    The first thing I would do is check to see how many active plugins you have. If you have too many plugins attached to WordPress, you're definitely going to slow things down (you probably don't want more than 6-12 or so; and you definitely don't need tons of social media widgets...find one that hits the most important social media/bookmarking sites). You would also want to remove any inactive plugins that you're no longer using.

    And, of course, the other recommendations about using some sort of CDN will help as well (notably for your site visitors).

    Why don't you try to use gzip compression?

    Here is a link that will answer the question as to whether there really is a need to speed up your page display

    http://tools.pingdom.com/ This tests the load time of a web page and provides a report.

    Use W3 Total cache plugin with self hosted CDN function selected, if you had just started things on wordpress then no need to buy CDN and this self hosted CDN is also capable to deliver decent performance. In future if you feel that you really need something further to boost your site speed then you can buy CDN such as MaxCDN, Good luck.
