Hello, I am new to SEO. When building a site and aiming at a target market, how low should the competition be? Is 100,000 too much competition? Also do you guys know a good place to get SEO video tuts to learn more?
You can find some nice tips here http://www.tizag.com/SEOTutorial/ Competition is good, means the market is alive. Try combining keywords, using long tail keywords will make your job much easier.
The # of search results has never been a good indicator for competition. Look at the websites on the first page and see how easy it would be to beat them.
Be aware that the new the site the harder it would be to rank. I usually suggest that newer sites work with lower competition long tail keywords and work their way to the harder one and two worders that carry a lot of comp.
Just check out the top 20 results in top 3 search engines i.e Google, Yahoo and Bing, and analyse your top 20 competitors. This way you can avoid real competitive keywords and go after less competitive keywords for which your website can achieve quick rankings in search engine result pages.Â
Use the Google Keyword tool to check out how high (or low) is your competition in a particular keyword. For SEO tutorial there are a lot of site offering them just google them.
Thanks for all the tips guys. I hear keywords that are only mentioned in 100,000 sites are good ones to shoot for.Â
You can start with Long tail keywords (Less Competitive) and after some months target with competitive Short tail keywords.
Like I said you are using the wrong indicator. It can be really easy to rank for keywords with millions of search results if the keyword competition is low.
its OK. but i prefer less than 1 luck. and greater than 25 thousands. keywords remain in this position not for a long time so you have to take decision quickly and start working as soon as possible. thanks
If your site is new, you are use long tail and less competitor keywords, these are best for new site. open google.com and search seo or "search engine optimization" and after click video you get seo video site result.. its not relevant you, use other keywords and search like " seo tutorial", "seo guide", seo basic tutorial' etc..
i think is not just the number of competitors you have to consider but how tough the top 10 competitors are. analyze them carefully or you'll end up with the supposed to be easy low search long tail competition but in reality it need more hard work than it should be. to sum up: the number of competitors and how easy can you beat the current top 10 competitors.
Easy way to find long-tail kewords: Â enter the interesting domain into semrush search line , then go to the Organic Keywords report, export it into Excel and sort by position. You need positions from 10 to 20.
I'm also a green hand as seo, I don't have a clear idea of marketing strategy, I was asked to learning some keywords and forums, the most common keywords I had used are buy from China, China wholesale, free shipping etc, and we are check out the effect through google analytic
