Do domains really affect SEO?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by AllWhatsRock, Jul 31, 2011.

I bought a domain a couple of weeks ago (theepiccoder.com) and there is currently a WordPress blog there but I want to delete that and build my own custom CMS and social network for webmasters, programmers and graphic designers.

Anyway, I am wondering if the domain will affect any SEO or search engine rankings. Basically, do domain names really affect SEO these days?

They still do play a role but I have heard that the benefit of EMDs (exact match domains) will be greatly reduced by Google. As for now though it certainly doesn't hurt having a domain that has some of your keywords in it as well as just being memorable for visitors.

I would say yes. It says something about the site that is relevant, and it is easy to remember.

I would never buy the domain before the keyword research. all depend on what keywords you will be targeting.

It is a good practice to buy relevant domain names. Some experienced SEO expert also recommend that research your keyword phrases and look for exact domain names. Sometimes, domain names based on hot and crazy keyword phrases actually do the trick as far as the search engine optimization is concerned.

    No doubt it's a effectively..!
& i would like to say about public domain is important and should be taken into account before changing DNS. Of course, if a campaign dynamic positioning applied to your existing domain name brought little improvement to their classification, you can always choose to buy another domain.

Domain names does affect the rankings of a website, however this is not considered to be the absolute determinant of one's serp, there are other factors (actually a lot) that should be considered, like content, backlinks among others.

Domain names effect optimization of your website to some extent... But if don't have an exact matching domain, this won't be the last thing on the earth to look for.

Keyword rich domains are important yes... But so is building a brand. No point having the domain www.mobilephone.com and then in a couple of years decide to start selling Christmas Trees instead. With a brand it wouldnt matter what you were selling. I mean would you think to call a social network site "FACEBOOK" how much do you think that was searched for in Google 10 years ago.

I have tried this and you'll ahead of improving your targeted keywords. And sometimes as you can notice using twitter name with your keywords ranks on the 1st page of Google. So I believe that having a domain name keyword is really effective.

It is always better to have your main keyword in the domain than not having one not only from SEO prospective but also humans. The domain can very well indicate your niche and the kind of service you're providing.
