Depends on your niche and competition etc. Could be a lot, maybe even a couple thousand wouldn't get you there, at least not for long.

It varies, like mentioned. A lot of factors affect the links you need. Depends on the keywords you want to get into for. For example, I could easily get to the first result for "coolest carpet on earth" but there aren't any searches for that. Maybe a few searches but it would not be beneficial. On the other hand, getting in for something like "free games" or "forums" would be much harder because there are many searches and a lot of people want to get in for it.

Also, link building isn't the only thing to get you indexed, although very important. I suggest you research SEO a bit more to gain the knowledge needed to rank.

You will get more accurate answers if you mention your niche.

hi Ovlznvvz, you can spy on your competitors who are already doing well in search engines, not exactly, but you will get a rough idea by looking at their back links. Besides your niche and competition you have to continue your efforts of getting back links from high PR authority websites.

Don't think anyone can give an accurate answer to this question. It all depends upon the sort of competition you have. Like you everyone of your competitor would be trying to improve their number of links and hence you won't be able to find out the exact number of backlinks you need to have to reach the top. All you can do is including more keyword-rich content in your site and hope that more and more people would link to your site. Simultaneously you can also continue with your white hat backlink building activities.

It is as simple as asking how many pebbles is needed to fill a well? It all depends on the depth of the well.
Just like this in internet marketing it all depends on various factors. They keyword you want to, the competition, your website's contribution in terms of content federation, quality of the websites that link to you etc.,

From my experience it may be 0 or 100,000 based on these factors. If you have specific question on any niche post it here. We could analyze and come to a point.

As mentioned, it's not a simple function of how many links you have. The quality of those links matters too. And there are a number of other factors (around 200 according to Google) that go into ranking too.

Links is the most important factor to get the listed on top position Google search, For getting listed on top in Search engine you have to ensure that your website proper optimize both (On-Site & Off-Site). if On-page completed and you are increasing your back-links in ethical way then i am sure you can listed on top position...

    Thanks
