Just got the news that Yahoo will be shutting down its siteexplorer.

More details on the news here

They suggest to use Bing webmaster tools.. I for one will definitely miss Yahoo's site explorer.

When you close a product, you show to the world that your product was a failure. Maybe an improve would have been better.

Have you even tried using site explorer or used it the right way? There is no such tool from a SE that can give the kind of data that they do. I'm guessing its more to do with them overhauling their search than anything to do with failure.

    hi forexaff,

after the merger of yahoo & microsoft, it's microsoft that is doing this funny stuff.. :) which they are widely known for.

they want to promote their own product now (bing webmaster tool).

    kindest,
    abhishek kundu

Yahoo Site Explorer is indeed a best tool for search engine optimization experts, I am assuming that Yahoo will come up with its improved version with more features.

I really doubt this has anything to do with marketshare. 3/5 webmasters know how great their siteexplorer tool has been.

In regards to MS being behind this.. it could be plausible considering their recent acquisition of Skype, partnership with Facebook and now tweaking Yahoo.. it seems like maybe microsoft is planning something big to kick the Big G's backside. But for now, I will surely miss siteexplorer.

MS making big moves is surely an alarm of something big coming, but siteexplorer really did help thousands of search engine optimization experts, should we expect any thing like Bing Site Explorer, ..it would be really amazing to see such product, what do you say forexaff?
