Mostly this thing happens when u get the page rank via paid maethods. specially if you buy the page rank from google it will put u on the first page for somedays and then puts u where no one reach u. in ur case i actually dont know if u had buyed the rank or developed it through struggle. my page is on the 10th position and is just dancing between 8,9,10,11 position these days. besides my hard work at backlink.

 

I dnt think so that page rank improve search engine ranking. One of my site is pr0 but its ranks first on search engines.

 

Sounds like the Google dance to me. Get links from good higher PR sites / pages. That helps in stabilizing - but expect this dance to last up to 3 weeks. It can be quite nerve racking

 

No page rank does matter for search ranking. For search ranking quality backlinks matter. so try to collect quality backlinks

I think ranking on search engines is based mostly on backlinks thats why link building is a very essential part of SEO. But of course Google doesn't rely on only one factor when determining position on the search engine. Other factors like relevance, backlinks, and content also play a factor, and probably a million other things.
