Also, how does Google determine how often it will index your site?

Indexing speed does not depend on search engine, it depends on the discovery of your website by the search engine.
Search engine discovers websites from various sources like, from directories, from social bookmarking website or from search engine submission.

Its been said that Yahoo! and bing cache web pages faster than Google but google updates its indexed more frequently than other two major search engines.

It depends on which spider finds your site first. I have some pages that were indexed by yahoo first while others indexed by google first. I believe the variance in timing depends on back links, how often they index your site and if the content is popular with visitors.

Both these search engines track how often a website updates its content. A website that updates often will be indexed more frequently than a dormant website.

There are many variables that affect how soon and often a website is indexed. There is no guarantee which search engine will index first.

Google first, though I never check Yahoo for obvious reason so I may be wrong :)

As i know it depends on the visitors. if you start getting visitors from the referral sites, then the search engine will understand that its important. so they will index it. and Google is more active in this case :)

It depends. If your website is default and don't have any metas or robots.txt code that commands bots or crawlers then I say it depends on how search engines quickly finds your website. It'll be hard on them if you haven't even started link building it. But if you're website have metas or robots.txt commanding bots to crawl it within a period of time, you might want to expect a bot around that time indicated.

Well it depends on which search engine comes to your site for searching the content first :)
Normally Google indexes the pages of a website faster than Yahoo, however the backlinks of a website are indexed by Yahoo first, here Google is a bit skeptical to show which backlinks it has indexed ;)

I think Google will be the first/most. The robot will find the new sites faster by parsing the existing websites and the search submitted daa

Googlebot is much faster to index stuff - I suppose they have lots of machines for crawlers.

All of my sites were indexed first by Google, then Yahoo, after several days to weeks after Google. Hope that answers your question.

Google has 60% of the market share, but Yahoo indexes more of your pages, but really Google is the one everyone aims to rank well for, because if you rank well on Google chances are you will equally rank well on Yahoo
