    Nop its not different. Its same like a Facebook Like. But that time its not very famous and they have mostly used in Blogs.

    The one thing that I find the most different is the Different wall thing. To put your friends in different sections and choose what to share to who. This way you can share for example a women in a bikini with your friends but your parents won't see it because they are in a different group. I think this will really attract a lot of people. Even I am attracted by this because I have family, friends and co-works in facebook and i don't want all of them to see what I post.

    Google’s +1 button is a huge step toward adding social aspect to search results. It is a similar concept as Facebook “Like” button except it is for search results. In Google’s word, it is your friend’s way of saying “this is pretty cool” or “you should check this out”. In other words, it is public way of stamping something with your approval, so that yours friends, contacts and other websites to find the best results they are looking for. This button is currently available on the English results for Google.com, and this is particularly important as it could influence the search engine rankings in Google.

    I think the popularity & effectiveness of the Facebook will remain same.

    Google +1 button is just like a recommendation to other users that are connected to your google profile. It may have the same concept as the facebook 'Like' butoon.

    Google is now stepping up their social game because they are looking to compete with facebook. So Google 1+ has more authority than the FaceBook "Like" & is now considered an major SEO factor to Google.
