How Do You Define a True "Writer"?

Discussion in 'Copywriting' started by Sneakyheathen, Jul 2, 2011.

There are millions of websites and millions of people making content everyday through tweets and blog posts and articles. How do you define a "writer" specifically?

I think a writer is someone who consciously uses techniques and style to create effective, compelling content.

Hmmm.. that we called a copywriter not writer. There is a different between natural writer and copywriter. While we are talking about SEO related content then it always refers to a copywriter but still there are some natural writers/bloggers available who alwys like to go with their instincts and don't bound their creativity within the limits of keyword density or whatever..

feels to me like copywriters and writers are slowly becoming more similar... but a SEO sales page writer and narrative travel writer will never be the same.

but who says the label can't work for all? after all, if you fix hearts or you fix foot fungus, they're all still a doctor :)

Your think is right! True writer try to use their own creativity to their writing, and never copy others writing, even seldom follow other writing formula.

There are decently priced courses and books that focus on the basics. Copyblogger's site is a good source for regular thoughts and approaches in the field.

Writers write. Now, trying to define what makes for a good writer is something else completely. Then again, maybe it isn't.

A writer is someone who can transmit clearly and persuasive it's message.

I suggest you read "Stephen King - On Writing".

You can find a review of the book on www razvanrogoz dot com

    Thanks,
    Razvan

A true writer genuinely enjoys writing, offers compelling content, engages a reader, and makes the reader want to read more.

The answer to this question is very situational. The content need depend from client to client and project to project, thus, writer should be able to adapt to clients needs and deliver the content satisfactorily. I would say someone who copies directly and says its his/her content is definitely not a true writer. :D

I'd have to agree with affiliateblue. If a writer enjoys writing, that normally comes across to the reader.

A writer is really anyone who writes, whether it be for personal or professional reasons. Now, if we were going to talk about what makes a professional writer, we could probably debate the topic all day. I guess I'd say a professional writer is someone who gets paid for writing. Of course, just because someone gets paid to write doesn't mean he's a *good* writer.

... a true writer grips the reader, emotionally moves the reader to commit themselves and in the case
of copywriting stirs the visitor to take an action..
