whats a highly reliable hard drive?

Discussion in 'Hardware' started by XTP605, Jun 21, 2011.

I have a few hard drives i'm wanting to transfer over to one big hard drive. what is the best brand of a hard drive known for being reliable? I would say make backup disc, but it'd be like a full terabyte of data, so your looking at a lot of disc.

had a western digital external, but it ended up crashing, i really dont want to go with them. any ideas?

I have three Seagate drives, all crashed while within the warranty. Sent them to service center, received Seagate certified refurbished hard drives. Two of them crashed again within two months..
Never gonna recommend Seagate to anyone..

Go for Western Digital Caviar Black, expensive but worths every penny. Using 8 of them right now, No problem at all.
Also, if reliability matters to you, in relation to data loss, consider using RAID 1..

PS: don't go for WD Caviar Green, they suck.

We typically use only WD (Western Digital). Nicest thing about them is their RMA process is extremely efficient, so even if there is a problem, getting a replacement drive is fast and easy.

Seagate is again my choice when it comes to hard disks. If budget is not a problem, then you can go in for solid state drives

I think the last desktop hard drive I bought was a Hitachi 1TB a couple of years ago. It's quiet and hasn't died... yet

WD is not reliable as an external harddrive it will crash even with a very minor shock Just go with any Segate 7200RPM harddrive.
