Maybe your keyword has no value in it. I mean it will get low search traffic. Anyway give me the keyword so we can analyze about that.

what is the keyword? did you check to see whether the keyword has any monthly search volume? use adwords external keyword tool to find the monthly search volume for your keyword. when searching for search volume, use exact match which will give you more accurate result. do keep in mind that the the result you will find is including google partner sites so actual google search result is lot less. for low volume keywords, unless you rank top 3, you will not get any traffic.

I think your Keyword volume would be very low. Check on Google Adwords to find exact search volume.

Aside from checking the keyword and it's search volume, look into the meta-description you have for your pages ranking 1 versus your competitors. Maybe your description is not as descriptive as your competitor's or it is not compelling enough for your website to get the click from visitors.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

There can be two reasons only.
    1. Low search volume keyword.
    2. Your landing page title and meta description isn't catchy to attract user to click on your website link on SERP.

Most important thing is your keyword. If your keyword search volume is low then you get easily ranking but not getting traffic so first you check out your keyword.

Yea most of the time that happens because your keyword/phrase doesn't get alot or if any searches a month.
You should try looking for keywords that get a lot of searches so you can get good traffic.
Try googles adwords keyword tool if you haven't already :)

Try doing a bit of market/niche research and find out what keywords your target market is using. You should aim for low competition keywords, but the global monthly search for these keywords should at least be 5000 and no less.

My two cents. Have a good day!

Here's a couple of likely reasons:

    1) theres no search volume for the keyword - you need to go to the google keyword tool and search for your keyword and then use [exact] to get the most accurate amount of searches for that keyword.

    2) google personalised results - have you checked that google hasn't personalised your results, sometimes they might change the results so that you are first page because you've been on your own website a lot but you won't actually hold that position in the search engine.

Point #2 of Guisbar would be the most logical one.

Considering you use a descent keyword to rank on, how ever even the most low keywords have some search volume (not none).
