I would say don't look at it as a per week basis. Rather focus on just getting them built all together! The more, the better! Just focus on building them. A great way it through article submission as often as possible (which includes a link back to your site in the resource box). It works!

There is no set number you should have per week. It will mostly come down to your website's competitors. The competitors in your website's niche will be constantly building backlinks, so there really is no limit or "required" set amount.

On the other hand, you can do some research on your competition by seeing how many backlinks the top 2 or 3 websites in your niche have.

If the top site has only 40 or 50 backlinks, you may want to shoot for about 60. If they have several hundred, that means you are targeting something very competitive and will have a lot of work ahead of you.

Also, keep in mind that PR carries a lot of weight. 1 PR5 backlink can beat 10 PR1 backlinks, so don't be only focused on the number of backlinks - it's more about the weight.

But I would definately be trying to get as many backlinks as I could - while being aware at the same time, of the average amount of backlinks my competitors have over me.

chekc how many your competitors have on yahoo, then you need to have +1 more then your competitor. But it's not all about the number, quality is more important then number

Take a look on your nearest competitors site and make more quality backlinks than that site. Forget about the quantity.

I would do a min of 1 back link a day that is quality. Spend an hour or two on lower quality back links if you want.

The number of backlinks that you should have is not really as important as the quality of the site linking to you and the anchor text that is used. Focus on getting 5-6 high quality links per week with appropriate anchor text that are from sites with highly relevant content. Grow your backlinks slowly and don't give in to the temptation to use backlinks generators and other risky techniques.

I suggest a slow but rapid pace, like 30 links or so a day because there is no promise that google will pick up on them. And as long as you continue to build the links it will look natural to google, you know what I mean?

look at how your competitors are getting there backlinks for the keywords you want to rank for and use the same kinds of backlinks they are using to beat them out.

if you site is new start slow and build more after a few months

If you're concerned about that, just outsource the building.

It depends on the competition, your question is far too vague.

The quantity of backlinks doesn't matter, what matter is how your competitor is running his race, what are the sites from where they are getting links, how many links your competitor have, and then react accordingly

There is no limit. But don't link spam your blog. Then you'll be sand boxed. You can build links for at least 5 links per day.

Backlink building is more of an art than systematic. It's usually better to just buy them.

There's no specific number of links. Just make your link building look natural and use different sets of keywords when building links so that it would not look like spam.
