Directory submissions?

I see people here and there offering 500 or 1000 Directory submissions at PR 1-5 websites for a small amount of fees. How good is that and do so many links act to penalize your websites at once specially if your website is new ?

I think if Google see loads and loads of links suddenly appearing all in one go, it doesn't like it. As I understands it, it is a gentle process of adding over time. The quality / credibility of the links are also an important factor.

They only submit your website in different directories, but no guarantee of approval. It is better to submit your website in some selected websites where you could get an approval. And build links slowly if you have a new domain.

Yeah there is a minimum PR1 for all the links so quality is definitely there. I'm just worried because my website is new.

    I need suggestions.

Link building is a time consuming job. If Google finds you buying paid links for SEO purposes (not using the rel=nofollow) they can penalize both you and the site you bought the link from. If you buy “dofollow” links for the purposes of SEO, be warned, Google may drop the hammer down on you.
So, take your time & build the links manually.

Most of these services are hardly of any good they guarantee you submission not inclusion first of all and even there are only a few directories in their list with decent PR of 5 or 6 rest are just useless. Also most of the directories these days are just useless they do not concentrate on quality rather they run for money. So just try to avoid free directory submission if you really want to submit then submit to a few selected ones only.

However, its good to generate links slow and steady instead of rushing too much. But there is no fixed number for that.

Bottom Line is : avoid the free directories only submit to Dmoz and two or three other quality directories.

you should define apolicy for yourself and follow it strictly. I am adding my site to a quality web directory monthly and usually paying for it to be sure. Or you can add your site to 30 quality free directories every month (as fastreplies says).

directory submissions are pretty dead and not as effective. I would do SB, article sub, and high PR blog commenting with Web 2.0 etc.

    A few things to consider:
    1. You might have submitted to 70+ directories, but you might not have been added to all of them.
    2. Google can take 4 weeks or more to do a full crawl on sites with a low PR. If some of the directories you submitted to are low in PR, your link might not have been crawled by Google in time for the last update.
    3. The "link:" command in Google doesn't return correct results. Use "link:" command on http://www.alltheweb.com or http://search.msn.com if you want better results.

It is not good to have 500 or 1000 links in a very few period. Google will block such sites.

Because now a days, Google is intelligent enough to identify spamming in all sections.

Lets just say that to get PR3 you need about 25 solid backlinks.
If you submit your site for 1 year you'll get 360

    There is your math :)

    An IDIOT has spoken.
You won't know quality directory of it fucks you in your ass.

    DMOZ????
    You're a fucking joke.

Ignore the people offering directory submission services, because they are STEALING YOUR MONEY. Even if they submit your site to the directories. Directory submission doesn't work well nowadays.

Well, one guy in SEO forum's post says that his site got PR5 with only 8 backlinks,
so now you make your calculations :)

And who made you an expert?

Based on "DO-FOLLOW" in your signature you just another asshole who uses term that doesn't exist.

You need to watch what you are taking that's very offensive. It's okay to disagree but this not the way of doing that. The problem with you is that you think that you know too much, better than anyone else. But atleast show some respect even if you don't agree with us.
