How fast is ASK.com really growing?

Discussion in 'All Other Search Engines' started by brian78347, Oct 26, 2006.

I hear on the commercials that ASK.COM is the fastest growing search engine. How can they say that when google is hiring a new worker every 20 minutes. Is ask something i should worry about marketing?

If you have 0% of the market share and get to 0.00001% of the market share, you've just increased your reach infinite percent. Therefore you are the fastest growing search engine.

    It's like this:

Ask is a hobbit child, google is a young man, aol is a dead person and msn and altavista are on their deathbeds.
Ask is the only one growing but because it's a hobbit it'll never be big anyway.
Google has stopped growing and is just getting fatter (new employees) but is massive, aol has died so it can't grow and msn and altavista are slowly shrinking as they die...
Therefore ask is the only one who CAN grow but as i said, it won't grow much.

I think i deserve post of the day for that! :D

Like Lorien pointed out, there's different ways to measure growth. It all depends on what type of measuring stick you use.

I've heard the same thing about Ask.com growing, but I don't think I've ever even seen Ask delivering a visitor in any of my site's stats. So I'm going to go with don't worry too much about advertising on Ask for the time being. They could develop though. Dominicc2003's post seems accurate but at the same time Google will not be around for ever and ever IMO.

Your forgetting one are you not? Wheres yahoo in all this mix? Their certainly not dieing to say the least. None the less, Ask.com is useless and will always be useless as long as the two big boys are around. Oh and also i wouldent say MSN is on its deathbed, With the introduction of Live and the release of Vista around the corner i think they'll get bigger. I already prefer MSN Live over Google now.

ask gave me about 0.3 % of my referrals the last time I checked my stats. So, no it's not dead, but it's also not worth much trouble.

Well if MSN does get more popular then i'll add this to my story:
"One day MSN said "Yahoo!" because it googled a cure for it's weird disease and found one. MSN was now becoming as strong as ever!"

I don't agree with that analogy I'm afraid, Google is more than just a search engine, it's a forward thinking company with a vision, Google is to search engines what richard branson is to, well, the whole world. Richard bransons has commercial spaceflight, google will have data centers on the moon.

Google can't turn old or die because all the talent works for google, every single webmaster out there works for google in effect, we are all making our sites "Google friendly". Once a company gets this big it can't collapse, i mean it'd be like microsoft going bust or something, it's just not gonna happen, they already have the monopoly.

Google is basically owning the whole net, it's slowly enveloping all other profitable internet sites and will eventually own pretty much all internet revenue. It already offers everything from blogs to dating to video, gaming, you name it, googles brought out a company that does it.

Datacenters on the moon?!, god dam it Google owns the moon and when you look up to the sky in 2050 you'll see a big capital G! lol

    In reply to Lee Rees:
I was saying Google's the young, strong one, I never said it would die :D
But I'd be suprised if Google (as we know it) was still going in 2100 tbh.

There is no doubt that they are trying to grow the ting but the reality is that they dropped the ball a long time ago and face an up hill battle in the search world.

Huh, msn isnt dead nor yahoo, you can say they are dead compared to google but they are definetly in much much better position than ask and i dont think ask will go past them ever.

AOL and Altavista are definetly gone.

So true Loren though I would like to see many "little dogs (small SE's) nipping at the heals of the big dogs" to keep them in line.

I have seen those comercials for ask tonight twice tonight for ask.

Actually considering the percentage of SE traffic that ask sends its more like a flea or two keeping my 100lb yelow lab itching ...
