Conversion rate is a permanently decreasing variable. When you launch a new product or a service that is in high demand, you may see good conversions at the beginning. Then, over time, the conversion rate will be decreasing, with the same amount of traffic, regardless of the quality of your landing page or a website. This is just inevitable. The solution is to increase the traffic (or, better yet, move over to something else). I believe this is a numbers game.
You're assuming that I'm marketing a new product. What about products that have a more inelastic demand, such as lawyers and doctors? Those conversion rates should stay constant or increase.

How targeted is your traffic? What are you sources? Yes I have made some simple changes to my webpage in the past in about 15 min. Sometimes it doubles my conversions sometimes it increases a little. Writing good copy is a skill. Here is a small basic checklist 1. Good header directly targeting the ideal customer with an exact claim. 2. nothing talking about your service being the best or referring to yourself, website, instead only refer to the benefits your customer will get and pull on the heart strings of subliminal want. It may seem odd but if you say "dominate Google in just a few steps" it is to broad ie: dominate what in google?, a few, It would be better to say "Dominate the 1st page of Google with only 3 steps" Or go the other way around say "Thousands get targeted traffic who never thought they could....with no work needed!" These are headlines I have used in the past but this also applies to the content in your sales page. Don't say make thousands in a week. Say make $3,467 in a week. Be exact, on target for your customer and only give them the benefits not what makes your product great. 3. freebie 4. Better conversion rate is always better, so I would agree with your theory. If a good conversion rate can be achieved then more traffic will bring in loads more sales later on .
@Globalp, yeah sure I'll shoot you a PM. Just to be clear, this checklist applies to the Adwords ad, not the actual site, correct? Right now, we lack some of the clarity to the customer on our landing page. We have great content, and a call to action, but no bullet points of the key benefits...Perhaps this is why I am inquiring about "site changes" in this forum...
