What is today’s best practice in SEO?

I am not sure, I know this =) This information is based on my own experience, not read on the internet or in the SEO books.

Probably you mean META keywords - yes, that is true, they have no influence, but the META description has a great influence. If you do not believe me, you may change your META to "hfbhasbghasbghasdbghb bds gasdoghfb sdafvahsgvaghfhsdba235 34erjht' ][lmsdg" and we all will look at the result =))

Obviously you will have to pay for high PR backlinks if try to dominate in the area with high competition. But of course you may download SEO software like SEO quake and try to find some high PR web pages of do-follow blogs. Not sure it is possible to succeed dramatically, but I always believed SEO is not a free service. It's easier to transmit this task to SEO firms, they have more experience and often already have a list of high PR backlink sources.

Anyway, whatever they provide as a proof of this fact, I will not believe them. As i said already, what I say is from my experience: I have edited my META description drastically and luckily in 3-4 hours Google crawled my website. My position for the keyword which I had highlighted has increased from 35th to 23th. I hardly believe it was just coincidence and Google has found some high PR backlinks simultaneously with this change. By the way, my SERPs in Yahoo changed too, so I'd better believe what I faced than what I have read.

 

You are doing all things correct but do quality posting.. not quantity posting..

 

Well, i think today's best SEO practice is Find your top competitor and and his backlinks and post your links on that sites. Try to get more traffic on your site by organic way and quality backlinks which help you in your site popularity. besides forum posting and blog commenting, also try to use social networking sites to make your website more visible and will get loads of traffic for your website.

I agree with most of the others that commented here that to find the good number of quality backlinks are the main trick ,but we should be sure about the keywords that we are targetting.

I'm afraid that you're wrong. Buying links is a very poor way of doing SEO, and if done correctly, SEO can provide the highest ROI in the marketing industry.
