    Hello,

We are creating some flash based SCORM's for a client does not have a reliable and speedy internet connection so the informatio will be burned to CD.

How can we secure the CD from being copied and/or passed around? We need to maintain some level of security.and hamper people from copying it and passing it to their work buddies.

The second part of the this is that the information is split into 5 modules. Is there a way to make the CD load by itself to a screen where the people have the option of what module they go into? For example, have a table of contents or images with hyperlinks to the specific modules? On the backside of that, how could we send the user back to the splash screen after completing a module?

I hope I have covered this enough to get my point across....any direction would be appreicated!

    Cheers,

    Dave

I am just not sure how you would go about protecting the CD. If the combined power of the music and film industries have not been able to prevent 'ripping' my gut feeling is that if somebody with technical knowledge wants to copy your cd they will find a way.

    Hello,

    I agree 100%....

What I am trying to do is minimise the risk. I want to make it difficult for the average user to copy. I agree that if somebody wants it that bad, they will find a way. That's not the person I am trying to deter. I am trying to deter the average Joe that is using his computer to check emails and surf the web for pics naughty pics of his ex-girlfriend.

It's really a low level of security I am after......

    Cheers,

    Dave

You can't, not the CD itself.. No matter whatever you do, anyone without any technical know how can simply clone the CD and burn it on another disk. Also note that DRM on CD is not efficient at all and it will cost an arm and a leg to get DRM manager for your software.

So you can not protect anyone from copying your CD. However, if you just want to protect the data (your code, graphics, etc), you can consider encrypting your data, and make an autoloader/Autorun UI that will load the encrypted data, decrypt it and show it on screen. If you are working in flash/AS3, you should have pretty good idea about how to do that. This will not make the material crack proof, but it will prevent anyone ripping off your work (At least not without reverse engineering the UI and pulling the decryption key and algorithm)

This is more along the line I will probably have to go. I'm not too sure how I will go about this method....I am not the programmer. I just use a tool to create.

    Cheers,

Dave, you can use any symmetrical encryption such as 3DES or Blowfish to encrypt the data. AS3Crypto is a free library that provides support for many Encryption algorithms.
    http://code.google.com/p/as3crypto/

But as you said you are not a coder yourself, I suggest once you complete the software, hire someone to create the Frontend/encryption tool and decryption tool for you.

I may have to do that....

Basically what I am trying to protect is a flash presentation that has our course material in it.

    Thx,

    Dave
