good seo without updating content?

I am making a site that won't be updated very much. If I make good seo to start with will it be able to remain high in SERPs or will I need to keep adding new content to the site to keep it ranked high?

I think the regular backlink building will be enough for seo

 

It really depends on your niche - How competitive is it? Are your competitors frequently adding content?
If your niche is "Fruit and Vegetable Detectives" you can probably go years without adding content, on the other hand, if it's "iPhone Apps" you should expect to need to update almost daily.

One of my customers sites doesn't get updated often - maybe once every 6 months, and they are 1st page for more than 20,000 search terms Have been for many years now!

 

yea just throw 2 500 word articles on there and your good

I had a site a couple months ago like that is ranked 1 for its term now and I even stopped doing SEO for about a month now

Some niches you need to update content regularly whilst niches like free web proxies only need one page, and rank well with lots of quality backlinks and good on-page SEO.

 

As others have already covered this is really niche dependent! I have run a few smaller niche websites that I have updated maybe twice in the last year or so and it still continues to rank really well. To achieve this I just did a bit of basic link building over the time to ensure it didn't fall any ranks.

Well I got a site that actually goes down in visitors whenever I update the site and since the visitors are mostly SE then I assume that my long tail are down whenever I update. It bounces back though, but definitely weird

 

It is good but not much effective, updating content is much helpful for the increase of the rank of the site.
