Check All Timeout Problems Solved (Maybe)

Discussion in 'Keyword Tracker' started by digitalpoint, May 3, 2005.

Let me know if anyone is still seeing the check all process dying.

The Google API is so incredibly slow these days, that the 60 second timeout I had on it was not enough for a single query in some cases. So I raised it to 180 seconds, and also double checking if it's a timeout issue and not dropping out of the process if it is (just in case one takes more than 3 minutes).

Sure wish the Google API was as fast as Yahoo's. :)

Worked great! First full completion of ‘check all’ since MSN and Yahoo were added. :)

I have tried on several occasions today to run the checker and it's processed about five entries :(

And when I try to edit my prefs, this is what I get:
I figured out part of the problem:
Apparently the kw checker tries to access my website for the php script for Yahoo and MSN even on Google rankings. Since my site is down temporarily, this is causing all of my entries to return errors. :(

It seems like the Google API's terrible performance was exactly the time when the keyword tracker made available the advanced usage script.

Since the advanced usage script makes the Google calls from unique IP addresses because of that. It almost makes me think Google throttles the requests per IP address. Once the requests were spread around different IPs, they weren't being throttled anymore, and the Google API was overloaded.

I might be wrong, but it sure seems that way to me... Strange that one application could overload the API servers if that IS the case.

Yeah, that's normal... if your script isn't available, none of the search engines will work.

Woohoo!! -- Thanks Shawn. It seems to work perfectly today. It ran all the way through without stopping!!!

I had 7 KWP that show the big -9,950, etc.. and if I click on them manually some update and some error. But if that is all that errors I am happy. (Those are all google KWP that had the problems.)

    Thanks again!!

When you say dying do you mean getting results like the following ?

    Query Thread Running...
Remaining... Keywords: 136, Links: 0 Refresh

I run the refresh daily via cron and a number of times it seems to die some
where in the middle of processing and not complete the updates. Not sure
if this is just timing out or what. I do use the advanced script so I can updates for Google, MSN and Yahoo.
BTW, talk about a tool I couldn't imagine being with out anymore !!

    My username is fornews.
Is there something I'm doing wrong ?

The apparent time out does not happen every day
but when it does I'm stuck until the next day.
    It ran fine today.

    Thank you.

I'm also experiencing problems like that at least since yesterday. Query freezes at some random number (Right now: Query Thread Running... Remaining... Keywords: 223, Links: 0) and refreshing the rankings does not finish at all. I've tried running the thread a couple of times to no avail.

User name is 'thepiper'. Thanks for any feedback, Shawn! I surely miss using the Keyword Ranking tool....

I think you're limited to the number of daily Google requests so if you're
first run of the day fails the refreshes wont be honored by google due to
    daily limitation

My keyword tracker hasn't worked since Saturday. I get N/A for everything. I expect that for Google because I'm still not coming up on that but should have results for MSN and Yahoo.
    I'm only searching 31 keywords so I don't think I'm overloading
