How much backlinks are required for getting top position in google and getting PR. Most of my backlinks are no follow, does that matter in getting good serp and PR.

No follow links do not pass any value to your website, so your PR will not increase at all. There is no fix number of links to get rankings, it depends on the keywords your are targeting and the completion. if you competitor has 1K backlinks you got to make more than that. But links should be from quality and relevant pages. 100 1pr backlinks can be equal to 1 PR5 link.

The answer is variable, but will almost always boil down to: more than the website just above you in the results right now! Plenty of online tools for checking the links to your competitors - so do a little research on those folks and that will be your answer.

no follow is mainly good for traffic it wont pass for pr or serps. For position it depends on your competition keyword. If its large could take thousands if it small could take a couple of good quality hi pr backlinks. Main thing to rember is off page seo is a never ending process. Stick with it.

I too agree with this. More than numbers what matters is the quality of the sites you are getting the backlink from.

There is nothing useless, even nofollow links gives you reference through people, mean do follow links gives your site value though search engine. and nofollow give you visit directly and makes your website popular.

Backlinks and PR doesnt mean much when you dont talk about industry/niche. The internet is not brand new and there's industries which are more competitive than others. Think about that.

I see this questions being asked way too many times so let's clear it up once and for all.

First off it is not volume that counts but quality. Quality backlinks are worth way more than having a lot of low quality backlinks. Now there is no answer to your question because every niche is different. It all depends on your competitors and how many backlinks they have. If your competitors have 10,000 backlinks, then you should have an amount of backlinks that is close to theirs. This is if you want to be top ranked of course.

Now I see that you said that most of your backlinks are "nofollow" links. This isn't good because despite the fact that yes they are pointing to your website and yes your anchor text might be properly optimized, there is no link juice that is being passed through that link, therefore it is useless.

I have one last thing to say and it is concerning the PR. A lot of people think the more backlinks your get to your website the higher your PR gets. This is a myth, backlinks have nothing to do at all with your PR. Your PR will only increase once your website gets popular on the internet, it is something that you earn over many years of existence. For example, CNN.com has a PR10 (having a PR10 is nearly impossible, there are a handful of websites on the internet with a PR10) because it is known world wide, it is extremely popular and influential, and it gets visited by hundreds of millions of users everyday. The same thing goes for facebook. But look at Twitter despite how popular it is, it is a PR9, which is extremely good don't get me wrong, but i just wanted to point out that PR isn't something you acquire but something you earn. Kind of like a trophy.

I hope I shed some light on your issues, if you have any more questions concerning anything, ask away ! :D

What are the factors effecting PR of the site..if backlinks have a negligible influence. How does Google estimate the popularity of the site..is it not by the number of visitors and no. of authority sites linking to the site..??

Your question is impossible to answer, it depends on the competition in SERPs -

Just saying "get 1000 back links" won't really do any good, the authority of the site thats linking to you has an impact, and also having back links from sites with different C class ip addresses will be better than getting backlinks from sites with same c class ip addresses, also the TLD has an impact, for example .edu and .gov back links carry a higher weighting.
