First you cant get good rank for just one week. You need a lot of job. A month and more. You must found a hard keywords,a lot of links and...

 

In 1 week looks like spam. If you do in 3 weeks it's gonna be better.

Type of Keyword is very important for ranking in search engine. If the keyword is highly competitive then you have to do lots of work to positioning that keyword and it takes 3 to 4 weeks to visible in google. The work should be relevant.

hi i have a few directories and do approve the links . but i do check the category and description text, and do not allow deep linking for free links.

you would be surprised how many links i trash each day for
no description
for submitting deep links
for not including there email address
not correct category .

but also i am completely upto date every day with all links.

Its not possible with high competitive keywords

 

web pages are less of your web site. domain age is also new and pr is 0. It's depend on your keywords. if your targeting keyword is low competitive then proper on page activities and Book marking sufficient. Show me keyword....

 

There are no short cuts in this field. Only long and persistent effort works....

 

I am with your thoughts. directory submission is less important in presen time. this is useless. I also submit 100 plus more submission in directory but i dont get appropriate result from it.

 

Doesn't google rank new websites higher for the first few weeks and then reranks it lower after that?

 

Depends on the quality content if its good then they will rank you high and index your pages fast. my first week i had over 1000 pages indexed without submitting them so search engines. I'm in my second month now and doing well.
