dblog, the answer is yes, as long as certain rules are followed. Namely, .edu domains may not be bought or sold directly, only via ownership transfer of the registrant. Hence, all .edu sales on paper are structured as the acquisition of the registrant + its domain. This doesn't affect anything, except the language of the contract.

 

I actually can't imagine how can somebody earn xx,xxx on one .edu site.
I suspect domain isn't brandable, site should contain info about mentioned school. Otherwise it is high risk to loose it.
What to do there? Post articles with links there?

 

This is a bit of a narrow-minded view. Any decent online school makes millions of dollars, and bigger players like EDMC and UPhoenix pull in billions. Second, consider the fact that it takes about 4 years and a budget of $500,000+ to get accredited and be able to register a new .edu; some education sector investors prefer to acquire a grandfathered EDU and back the school into it. Third, grandfathered EDUs are exempt from usage and accreditation requirements / restrictions, so you cannot lose it. Fourth, links & articles for the most part isn't a real business; there are many folks who own or a looking to launch an education business, be it continuing & professional education, short-term technical courses, language courses, art classes, executive education or lead generation for the for-profit edu sector just to name a few. All of them prefer to have .edu domain and can monetize it very well in a short period of time. Last but not least, an operational EDU website tends to command a higher advertising price (if advertising is part of the business model) than a comparable .com - a single homepage advert can cover the cost of the entire domain.
