IE7 > FF in my opinion. Anyway, with Windows Vista, the security of IE7 won't be an issue anymore i think (if you plan to buy the new windows).

    Who knows...

Yes, I plan to buy a new computer in the next months and I'm waiting until Vista is available. If IE7 + Vista is more secure than others, it's possible. Only the time can judge it.

But the biggest pleasure I get using FF is that is the only browser with Adblock, at least as I know. And, man, surfing without it is a real torture (I hate flash ads)

Yes. Sometimes Microsoft forgets the users with older OS and focuses only in the current OS. Now it's the turn of XP. One day was the predilect son of MS, tomorrow will be the forgotten and trashed.

This reminds me like when MS released IE6 SP2 only for XP and left all the NT's and 2000's with the very insecures IE6 original and SP1. History repeats...

    Upgrade or die...

I have been using IE7 for three months now, I love it.
When I need to use another browser, I use Opera. FF is a waste of HD space.

IE7 is a massive improvement over IE6 in many respects; however, like others have said, I hate the new interface. What is up with putting the address bar above the menu bar? That is like totally idiotic. For that matter I don't like that I can't move toolbars around like I can with other Windows apps (e.g. MS-Office).

I have also been comparing IE7 against FF2 and one thing that IE7 finally gets right where FF2 still falls short is zooming pages the way Opera does. Its about bloody time browsers started following Opera's lead and zoom the entire page, graphics and all, not just the text.

With that said, one really nice feature in FF2 that is missing from IE7 is inline automatic spell checking (although FF2's dictionary is missing many common words).

IE7 is going to be a good mass market browser and a welcome replacement to IE6. It does still have a few warts to work out (like new rendering bugs on some pages), but all in all it is a major improvement.

With that said, I still really like Firefox better for the following reasons:

    1) FF's better user interface (tabs, address bar, menu bar etc.)

    2) inline spell check for forms (no more cutting and pasting to Word),

    3) FF's better security record over IE (IE7 still has to prove it can defeat spyware and drive by downloads)

    4) infinite ability to customize FF. I just reworked the entire default skin for FF to be extremely compact (only 70px for menubar, address bar and tabs combined compared to 90px in IE7 for the same).

In the end the technical lead that Opera and Firefox have enjoyed over IE has been narrowed substantially with the release of IE7 and more than ever which browser is best is really a matter of personal preference. I don't think IE7 will be a threat to Firefox but I also don't think Firefox will see a massive defection of IE users from the WinXP crowd. Although Win9x and Win2k users may be ripe for defection so that they can get a modern browser.

I completely agree. Having in account that 80-90% of the end users are using IE, the security improvements and the web standards updates are undoubtedly good news for everybody (although still think that FF2 and Opera 9 are far better)

Also agree. MS may had created an option to choose the layout: new playschool stupid layout or classic layout, as they did with XP themes.

What the MS usability experts where thinking about? Maybe for IE8...

IE7 is great. the only limitation is the lack of extensions.
