Skype has never made a profit. Microsoft paid 2x what anyone else was only rumored to be willing to pay. Most people think Microsoft way overpaid and is nuts, in general, to do this.

I think its a nice gamble on Microsofts behalf, very expensive price tag though. I personally will be watching with intrigue to see what Microsoft can do with what they just acquired :)

its was their only in into that level of communication which is a great move for them since they wanted to go into social media its the next best thing and can easily take over a portion of that market

Which no one in the business or technical world believes as evidenced by the articles everywhere questioning Microsoft's sanity and their drop in stock price.

This is a gigantic purchase however they just got a hold of one of the most popular mobile apps & computer apps. With MSN , Skype and Yahoo under control i guess we might soon see a unified IM service that has over 100 million users online. That might be a very good investment for IM domination .

It just shows how much money is in the telecommunications and internet business. World population is exploding and mobile devices are every where. Probably a good move by Microsoft.
Last time I was in San Carlos, Mexico a beautiful yacht over 200 feet came into port. The back end even opened up and swung sideways allowing a speed boat and wet bikes to come out. Helicopter on top of the yacht. Who owned it? Rich Mexican who owns a telecommunications company. lol It sure was nice.

The only problem with that thought is Skype does not make money and yahoo is sinking fast.
