.gov and .edu backlinks ususally have a good SEO impact because they give trust on the eyes of the search engines. They are quality and high authoritive sites, and a link from them is very beneficial for SEO (as long as the link is dofollow)

Edu sites are run by universities so it has some authority and high page rank. That high trust gives us some authority. So we get the positions in search engines.
The gov sites are also give equal importance as edu websites, but gov backlinks are hard to get, even a less gov backlinks will help for backlink building.

getting a dofollow link from .edu and/or .gov is of utmost importance because they are limited in number

and you just can't buy a .edu or .gov domain name until you met certain requirements

.com, .info, .net, .org etc are all easy to buy and exists in millions all over the net but this is not the case with .edu and .gov

Search engine still gives them importance and the site which is getting a dofollow backlink from either of two will also get importance in return

It's difficult for an ordinary person to get their own .gov or .edu domain names as they are reserved for government departments and universities.

Because of this, Google assumes that the people on .gov and .edu sites are not likely to be spamming or publishing poor content. That's why Google gives these domain extensions more credit.

So, when you get a back links from a .gov or a .edu domain, it's generally worth more than one from a .com or .org.

Those are backlinks from sites that ends with .gov. or .edu instead of .com or whatever it is. It is said that backlinks from those sites are the most powerful backlinks. But I don't actually believed in it.

google finds .edu and .gov backlinks to be more of value, because not just anyone can have those kinds of domains. so getting a backlink from these domain extensions are better than others.
