    a good way to start is reading a SEO book
    Aaron Walsh SEO Book is a good start and i think it's free
    Search for Bruce Clay SEO Book also

    There are many resources in the internet for basic SEO. You just have to patient because gaining good results from your SEO strategies are not instant, you have to spend time, search, and try all the tips suggested and compare which of them are the best.

    - Find forums relevant to your niche
    - Join them and make sure you can add a signature link
    - Post on these forums everyday to build backlinks using your signature link
    - add quality and unique content often including your main keywords

    Thats my formula, and it works great for me. You will learn more with experience.

    The only way to get good at SEO is to do it. There is no substitute for experience. But if you really want to learn it, then get a mentor. Every SEO has his/her own strategies that work. You can talk to five different SEOs and get five different opinions about some things. Some place a higher importance on backlinks while others place a higher importance on on-page content. Who do you listen to? You have to figure some things out for yourself. But if you start with the basics - all of which are available for free by reading the top SEO blogs - then branch out from there.
