once you are addicted then it will be very very hard to leave from that habit especially habits like smoking and drinking.
Going cold turkey and just stopping is the best method. It only takes a few days to break the habit initially. It also helps if you have some motivation (e.g. a fitness goal, to run a marathon, a new baby on the way etc etc). Good luck!
I have stopped smoking several times and always started again , that was without any patches or gum , and they say that 90% of people that don't use any type of aid will fail in stopping smoking, Both my wife and i are now considering hypnotherapy , we know a few people who have had this and they are still smoke free.
