I am wondering if relevant links are that much more valuable then non-relevant links. I see quite a few websites on the first page of google with a lot of backlinks from blogs many of which are not relevant to their site.
Obviously backlinks related to your niche hold more value than the backlinks which are not in your niche. However it is very difficult to find or get links on relevant sites and that is why most of them just try to get backlinks from any sites possible. Make sure you have more quantity of relevant backlinks as compared to not relevant links
Revelevant backlinks are more desirable than non relevant ones. But it is sometimes hard to find relevant sites on your niche. IMHO, relevant links are more vauable not only from a backlink point of view but also your reader is more inclined to click your link.
Search Engine Ranking will consider so many factor. For example, if you having real estate sites and getting back links from real estate related article, directory and social network. This is the relevant back links.
Relevant links are vital. Few non-relevant links will also help. Its not natural for a website to get links from relevant sites only. But large percentage of links non-relevant sites is spammy.
Relevant links are considered of greater value. This is specially true after the latest Panda update, where Google is clearly promoting quality. Obviously, links from/to non-related topics will not be considered "valuable" in the eyes of Google. Of course it is not easy to get links from such sites, but at least you should try it. And forgetting for one moment the search engines: How many "real" visitors are you going to get from pages that are not related at all with your business? For example, if you sell electronic gadgets, do you really think you'll get many visitors from pages about medicine or gardening?
I agree that it is hard to get relevent backlinks. The best way is with natural linkbaiting I suppose. If its within your niche, well written articles go a long way.
Relevant backlinks always gives you good ranking, Non-relevant backlinks are easy to get, may be for high counting also, but you should try always for relevant backlinks.
Google gives more value to relevant links, but more importantly you can get more traffic from links in relevant places. Getting a link on a relevant site is difficult, mostly because the most relevant site is likely to be your competition.
Only relevant links to the websites are valued by Search Engines... If you have irrelevant links, sooner or later, they will be devalued and your website may loose rankings. No doubt its difficult to find relevant links that is why I use a tool called 'Keyword Country'. It helps me in finding my niche related blogs and forums (for backlinking) and allow me to peep into my competitor's backlinking strategy.
Obviously relevant links are better, and they are given more importance by search engines, but its not always possible to get backlinks from relevant sites, so the best option would be to have most of the relevant sites and a few that are irrelevant.
Relevance is one of the important factor to consider in making links thus always make a link on a related and relevant pages.
