Is getting the first successful website the hardest part?

Is this the hardest part for starting webmasters?

It seems like once you get your first successful website then you can use it's PR ,some of the traffic (if possible), sell ad space, etc, affiliate earnings reinvestment. Do any of the opnions in this forum differ?

Those things are valuable, but I think the largest benefit of your first successful site is the fact you are reminded every day that you CAN make this work.

There is often a long lag between the time you do the work and the time you see any benefit. If you have parents, spouse, significant others telling you it won't work, you are wasting your time, get a real job etc. it can be very hard to stay motivated.

LOL, This is the point I'm at now. I did keep my day job of course. The only way to get rid of that is when I'm making at least te same amount of money. Hopefully within the year this can happen. Ive given myself a full year of doing things "the right way" and also trying every way possible + every type of site possible until I find the right formula. I'm hoping this strategy works :)

When you are promoting the first site, you will have learned a few things on the way which you can implement for future sites, so the experience will be invaluable.

The first site is definitely the hardest. Do everything you can to build it up and get your backlinks. Once you have one good site, you can build more or keep building on your big site. Everything snowballs after a certain point. How hard you work will dictate when you will come to that point.

Stay motivated and make good use of your time. Always remember to add VALUE to your sites. :)

Here are some good sites for motivation and research:

Yeah, I'd say the first one is the hardest. After that IS a snowball affect. It's very nice to watch. :)

I'm still trying to create the snowball affect, but I am not just focusing on one site. I like to build multiple sites at once, I have the time to do so.

I believe my main one (first one) Writer's Beat is about to peak into a snowball affect soon. (If I want it to anyway) It's starting to get a lot of traffic.

Yes, first is the hardest because by the time the first is successful you know what works and what doesn't (unless you randomly got lucky with the first one)...after that it's just applyng your knowledge, rinse and repeat kinda...so yep, if you have one sucessful website where the success didn't come easy..chances are you'll be successful with any other that follow

The first site is definitely the hardest.

Remember that the urge to give up is always the greatest when you're about to succeed.

I hope I didn't butcher that proverb too badly. ;)

    Great post.

If you are enjoying the process and not concerned about the financial gains then it's just a matter of time before you succeed. Maybe it's the 1st site, maybe it's the 50th! Either way you'll learn a huge amount and providing you learn from your mistakes and enjoy the process you'll succeed.
