Google PageRank,Alexa Rank and Link Building!

While we use to make links or prepare any link building strategy, we check two basic things at a first glance ,one is Google PageRank and another one is Alexa rank of a website/page.The reason is this two quality metrics helps us a lot to get boost on search engines and web traffic.
PageRank:Google say’s“PageRank, a technology that determined the “importance” of a webpage by looking at what other pages link to it, as well as other data.”

Alexa Rank:Alexa say’s Alexa provides information about websites including Top Sites, Internet Traffic Stats and Metrics, Related Links, Online Reviews Contact Information and Search Analytics for SEM and SEO optimization. The Alexa Toolbar is a browser add-on that shows data about sites as you surf the web.
So basically this two provides a quality score to judge a web page,If we are well concerned about Google optimization and quality back link building strategy then this two parameter’s are well established one,in my opinion.Google PageRank is first observable point for any sort of links we are going to acquire,if PageRank is high and Out Bound Links are limited then definitely a page carries good weightage.For Alexa ranking if your Alexa traffic is less,then that indicates that it’s having decent amount of traffic estimation and the page quality is measurable.
A question I often asked by by our client that what is Alexa traffic rank?The answer is “The traffic rank is based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and data obtained from other, diverse traffic data sources, and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach). As a first step, Alexa computes the reach and number of page views for all sites on the Web on a daily basis. The main Alexa traffic rank is based on a value derived from these two quantities averaged over time (so that the rank of a site reflects both the number of users who visit that site as well as the number of pages on the site viewed by those users). The three-month change is determined by comparing the site’s current rank with its rank from three months ago. For example, on July 1, the three-month change would show the difference between the rank based on traffic during the first quarter of the year and the rank based on traffic during the second quarter.”So when Alexa traffic rank based on there own metrics,its mainly collect those browser’s data(user interaction)who use alexa tool bar.

How you can use Alexa tool bar ?If you install it you can see it has own traffic ranking score,measure the page quality .Then go for traffic details where you can see traffic stats ie,Traffic rank,Page views,bounce rates,you can see lovely audience demographics,related review of the page and back links number which are notable feature of Alexa tool. We can gather t to those data to justify our back links.

So while we make any link or make link building strategy Google PageRank and Alexa rank is a good quality scoring rank.Though there is a huge debate on alexa traffic estimation accuracy,and mine too(the reason is alexa traffic metrics based on only Alexa tool bar user’s,where most of the common net user dont use alexa toolbar )but we never ignore Alexa ranking factor while we make any link building strategy for a client.

Great information on the basics of the metrics of ranking in Google. It is good that you poointed out that Alexa uses only the info from those who have the Alexa bar installed, not the whole internet user information.

 

Does ranking affect serps that well though?

 

"High PR will help to get traffic" --not really..PR is not does not help you to get traffic..there is no direct relationship...traffic helps to enhance the PR...just check out Lari's PageRank formula you will get the idea..
